Surrender

KEY VERSE:
James 4:7 ESV Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

To be a Christian is to be Christ-Like. Christ surrendered His life over to the Father. Christians must do the same.

I. WE MUST SURRENDER OUR SIN TO HIM.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

A. There are sins we surrender to God and there are some we hold on to.

B. The key to surrendering our sins is found in Christ and in God’s Word.

John 10:27
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

Colossians 1:12-14
12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,
14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

John 5:19
So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.

II. WE MUST SURRENDER OUR WILL TO HIM.

Matthew 7:21
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

A. Doing God’s Will is not easy, we must pray that we will do it.

Matthew 6:10
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

B. Having good intentions to do God’s Will is NOT the same as doing it!

Matthew 21:28-31
The Parable of the Two Sons 28 “What do you think? A man had two sons. And he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’ 29 And he answered, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he changed his mind and went. 30 And he went to the other son and said the same. And he answered, ‘I go, sir,’ but did not go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes go into the kingdom of God before you.

III. WE MUST SURRENDER OUR BODIES TO HIM.

Romans 12:1
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

A. Our bodies include our eyes, our ears and our actions!

IV. WE MUST SURRENDER OUR MINDS TO HIM.

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

A. The World and Sin have polluted our thinking. We must renew our minds in Christ Jesus!

Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

V. WE MUST SURRENDER OUR LIVES TO HIM.

Luke 17:33
Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it.

A. God wants every bit of you and me. He is very Jealous for us.

Deuteronomy 4:24
For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

Conclusion:
Surrender starts with an answering to His Call: Matthew 11:28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
