The Appointed Time

2 Peter 3:9 English Standard Version (ESV)
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

In today’s world we have many appointed times. We have appointed times to celebrate dates (holidays). We have an appointed time to worship God (Sundays). God also has an appointed time for important events to in our lives. Today we shall look at three of them.

2 Peter 3:11
Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness,

A. Everything in the world is on a time limit. God’s Time Limit!

1 John 2:17
And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

B. No one but God knows the appointed time.

Mark 13:32
“But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

C. However, there are clues….

Luke 21:25-28
25 And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, 26 people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

D. We must be ready!

Matthew 24:42 Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.

Matthew 24:40-41
40 Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left.
41 Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left.

A. Christians will NOT suffer God’s Wrath!

1 Thessalonians 5:9
For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

B. The Rapture will come like a thief in the night.

2 Peter 3:10
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar,
and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are
done on it will be exposed.

III. God Has an Appointed Time for Your Salvation.

Galatians 4:4-5 (ESV)
4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law,
5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.

A. The time for YOUR Salvation is NOW! TODAY!

2 Corinthians 6:2
… Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

Everything in life has an appointed time. God is the one who directs our paths and appoints the times and seasons of our lives. We should pray that He would show us His will so that we may NOT be found sleeping when the Appointed Time arrives.
