Trusting God

I put this sermon together while remembering times when I really had to trust God. It was a time of great difficulty in my life. It seemed everything was crashing down around me. Indeed, many things I deemed important in my life were in jeopardy. Below you will find an outline of the sermon I presented at the A Word from God Bible Church on October 09th, 2011. This is merely an outline. The accompanying podcast fills in the blanks. It is my prayer that you are blessed by the words the Lord spoke through me on that day.

Trusting God

All Scripture New International Version 1984 (NIV1984)

Key Verse:
Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

  1. Trust can be defined as a feeling of safety and/or comfort in relationship to another person.
  2. Without Trust, a relationship cannot strive.
  3. Trust is earned, not given.
  4. Trust is developed over time.
  5. Trustworthiness is dependent on the person facilitating it, not on the recipient.

►Trusting God gives us deliverance:

Psalm 22:4-5

In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.

►Trusting God blesses us:

Psalm 40:4

Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods.

►Trusting God gives us hope:

Psalm 71:5

For you have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD, my confidence since my youth.

►Trusting in people will let you down, trusting in God never will:

Psalm 118:8

It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man.

►Trusting God gives us peace:

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.

► Trusting God keeps courage our up:

Isaiah 28:16

So this is what the Sovereign LORD says:  “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who trusts will never be dismayed.

►Trusting God gives us strength:

Isaiah 30:15

This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.

►Trusting God gives us a foundation to grow on:

Jeremiah 17:7-8

“But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

Jesus asks us to trust Him:

John 14:1

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.
