Key Verse:
Psalm 61:2 (ESV)
from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I,
Christians are not promised an easy life, but we are promised to have God there with us through it all!
I. Overwhelmed with Fear:
Psalm 55:5 (ESV)
Fear and trembling come upon me, and horror overwhelms me.
Life can be very scary at times. Troubles can appear out of no where and overwhelm us in an instant.
2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV)
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
With the help of the Holy Spirit that God has given every Christian, fear can be cast down through love!
1 John 4:18 (ESV)
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
Not only can we cast out fear but Christ will carry our fears for us!
1 Peter 5:7 (ESV)
Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
II. Overwhelmed with Depression:
Psalm 77:3 (ESV)
When I remember God, I moan; when I meditate, my spirit faints.
There are many things that cause depression: past hurts, present circumstances, chemical imbalances and even sin.
Philippians 4:8 (ESV)
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Satan likes to get into our thinking and use our own thoughts against us. He can’t read your mind but he can influence it! We must be careful of what we allow into our minds. Junk in equals junk out! We must unlearn what the world has taught us if we are to defeat depression.
Romans 12:2 (ESV)
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
2 Corinthians 10:5 (ESV)
We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
III. Overwhelmed with Foes:
Psalm 71:10 (ESV)
For my enemies speak concerning me; those who watch for my life consult together
When everyone is against you, God is with you!
Romans 8:31 (ESV)
If God is for us, who can be against us?
Christians have the greatest advocate of all on their side, God Himself!
John 9:35-37 (ESV)
35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
36 He answered, “And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?” 37 Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you.”
IV. Overwhelmed with Trouble:
Psalm 77:2 (ESV)
In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord; in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying; my soul refuses to be comforted.
Even Christians go through very hard times where it seems there is no comfort. God is always there ready to comfort us. He does not always take our pain away but He does carry it for us if we let Him.
Psalm 27:5 (ESV)
For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.
Psalm 86:7 (ESV)
In the day of my trouble I call upon you, for you answer me.
Many of us feel as though we must handle life alone and depend upon our own strength. This is not so with the Christian. God is always there waiting for our prayers so that He may answer us and help us through.
