Key Verse:
John 14:6 (ESV)
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
No other religion offers life through the giving of another. Only Christianity gives life through death. Jesus became Sin for us so that He may give life to us.
I. He is the Source of Life:
Ephesians 2:1 (ESV)
And you were dead in the trespasses and sins
To be “dead in our sins” means to be spiritually dead. There is no fellowship between God and those who are in their sin.
Romans 7:9 (ESV)
I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died.
God’s Law is a mirror that reflects our sin and our need for a Savior.
Isaiah 59:2 (ESV)
but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
Christ brings life back into us be restoring our relationship with God.
Colossians 2:13 (ESV)
And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,
II. He is the Substance of Life:
Colossians 3:4 (ESV)
When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
The word “substance” means “essence”. Christ is the very essence of our lives!
John 10:10 (ESV)
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
Not only will we have eternal life, but Christians can experience abundant life now!
III. He is the Sustenance (nourishment/food) of Life:
John 6:50 (ESV)
This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die.
Christ is spiritual food for the sinner. This bread from heaven is the nourishment that brings life.
John 6:54 (ESV)
Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.
The Words of Christ (the Gospel) bring us life if we consume them through faith.
John 5:24 (ESV)
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
Just like food that satisfies our flesh, Christ is spiritual food that satisfies our souls.
John 6:35 (ESV)
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.
IV. He is the Solace (comfort) of Life:
Psalm 63:3 (ESV)
Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.
Christ gives comfort to life for the Believer. He becomes the very thing you live for and crave!
Acts 17:28 (ESV)
For “‘In him we live and move and have our being’;
Christians are to take comfort in Christ. To run to Him, to be with Him at every turn in life. He is our life!
Colossians 3:4 (ESV)
When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Christ is many things to Christians, but the most important thing He is, is LIFE. Without Him, we have no life at all.
John 15:5 (ESV)
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
