All Scripture New International Version 1984 (NIV1984) Unlesss Noted.
Key Verse:
John 16:33 Amplified Bible (AMP)
I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have
[perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials
and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident,
certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of
power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]
Key Points:
- Believers rely on the provisional help of God.
- NON-Believers rely on the Ways of the World.
- God is unlimited in the methods he can use to help His Children.
- NON-Believers must use the World system for their help.
- God knows about what His Children need before they ask.
- Sometimes God allows troubles to come into the Believers life in order to strengthen them.
- God NEVER forsakes His Children.
Section 1: Our Role in God Helping Us:
►We must humble ourselves to receive God’s Help:
Proverbs 22:4
Humility and the fear of the LORD bring wealth and honor and life.
►We must put our hope in God to receive His help:
Psalm 42:11
Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
►We must have Faith to receive God’s help:
James 1:6-8
But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.
►We must be obedient to God’s Word to receive His help:
Deuteronomy 5:32-33
So be careful to do what the LORD your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left. Walk in all the way that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.
►We must give our cares over to God to receive His help:
1 Peter 5:7
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Section 2: How God Helps Us in Times of Trouble:
► God comforts us in times of trouble:
Hebrews 2:18
Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
► God brings good out of all believer’s circumstances:
Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
► God will strengthen us in times of trouble:
Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
► God will empowers believers with His Spirit:
2 Timothy 1:7
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.
► God is with us in times of trouble:
Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
► God will fight for us in times of trouble:
Exodus 14:14
The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Section 3: Asking God for Help:
Matthew 6:5-8
Prayer
“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
